- Friday, 14 February 2014 - 11:00
An exhibition of paintings, sculpture and contemporary art on the theme of love, flirtation and courtship, marriage, obsession and betrayal and, happily, contented love which celebrates the reopening of The Atkinson’s art gallery after three years of rebuilding.
The exhibition features key works from their collection, large scale paintings like ‘Lilith’ by John Collier and ambitious contemporary art installations loaned by the Arts Council by major artists such as Anya Gallaccio. On show too are items from their social history collection, Victorian Valentines cards, a wedding dress from Boothroyd’s and ceramics. Also on display are paintings of the Northern school including works by LS Lowry, Theodore Major and Liverpool artists including Adrian Henri and Nicholas Horsfield.
Besides a guided tour of the exhibition which explores the themes mentioned above you will also to be shown ‘behind the scenes’ of the newly refurbished gallery itself.
This event has been oganised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
