Children's literature has only been recognised as a distinct genre for about 200 years and with the increase in a commercial trade in children's books came the rise of the children's illustrator, with output in the 19th century growing enormously.  Liz Merry will explore the milestones leading to this 'Golden Age, when Lewis Carroll blazed a trail of originality and look briefly at what was to follow.

This event has been organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
