- Visit and Talk |
- Thursday, 17 October 2013
Dr Martin Robinson, the renowned architectural historian and author is Maltravers Herald Extraordinary, Librarian to the Earl Marshall and archivist to the Duke of Norfolk. He has published many books on architecture and is a regular contributor to Country Life.
Mr & Mrs Richard Gillow Reynolds have invited us to Leighton Hall where Dr Martin Robinson will talk about Wilton House, the home of the Earls of Pembroke since 1542.
Wilton Hall stands on the site of a ninth century nunnery founded by King Alfred. Following a fire in 1647 which severely damaged the interior of the house, John Webb completed the building of the house. The south front and State Rooms remain a testimony to the architect’s skill and the popularity of the Palladian style of architecture in the middle of the 17th century.
This event has been orgainsed by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
