Visit to Abbot Hall

- Visit and Talk |
- Thursday, 21 February 2013 - 11:00 until 14:15
Abbot Hall is a Grade I listed building in Kendal which was transformed into an art gallery in the 1950s by the Lakeland Arts Trust in order to restore the derelict building. It is now the home of a diverse art collection which includes one of the finest selections of local artist George Romney's work in the country, along with 18th and 19th century watercolours of the Lake District and a range of modern and contemporary sculpture and painting.
After a cup of coffee there will be a presentation about the management and policies of running a provincial Art Gallery, including the history of Abbot Hall, the permanent collection, the temporary exhibitions and their method of presentation. There will also be time to appreciate the nearby Windermere Steamboat Museum and the adjacent Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry at Abbot Hall. Lunch will be provided to conclude the visit.
This event has been organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
