Sir Peter Lely, The Rape of Europa, c 1650, at The Courtauld Gallery

Join us for a private view, introduced by the exhibition’s curator, Caroline Campbell. Peter Lely dominated English painting at the Restoration court of Charles II and this exhibition is the first to examine a ‘remarkable but forgotten’ group of works from his early career. They were painted during and after the dramatic, tragic events of the Civil War, but depict an idealised, seductive pastoral world.
This event has been organised by a local support group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
