A Bigger Message: Conversations with David Hockney

'Talk by Martin Gayford'
Few can claim, as Martin Gayford can, to receive David Hockney drawings on their iPhone, emailed over by the artist himself. The author's latest book, A Bigger Message: Conversations with David Hockney, brings out a less familiar side of the man described as the world's most popular living painter, revealing him to be a highly insightful and original thinker on art. For Hockney, drawing makes one "see clearer, and clearer, and clearer still", says Gayford. In this record of over a decade of conversations, the artist outlines his views not only on his own works but also on the nature of creativity as a whole.
The talk coincides with the Royal Academy's spring exhibition, David Hockney RA: A Bigger Picture, which runs until 9th April. On arrival at the historic Art Workers' Guild, guests will enjoy a glass of wine.
