- Talk |
- Thursday, 3 November 2011 - 18:30 until 21:15
Matthew Rice, author and designer is to give a talk The Lost City of Stoke-on-Trent, based on his newly published book of the same name.
Having received rave reviews, the book tells the unique story of Stoke-on-Trent and Matthew traces the origins of the city, as it rapidly grew into one of the great cities of the Industrial Revolution. Attention is given to the entrepreneurship and creativity of master potters such as Wedgwood and Spode.
Matthew will take us on a fascinating journey through the City from the 18th century onwards, with its muddled architecture of bottled kilns, pot banks, terraces and mansions until its decline from the 1960s with the demolishing of buildings making way for new developments, through to Matthew's view of the city today.
The talk will be followed by a book signing by Matthew.
This is a joint event with the Friends of the Potteries Museums & Art Gallery.
