Chillington Hall, a Georgian Counrty House near Brewood, Wolverhampton, and has been home to the Giffard Family for the past 800 years. Designed by Francis Smith in 1724, John Soame in 1785 Chillington Hall is a fine example of a Grade 1 listed building. In the 1760s and 1770s 'Capability' Brown designed and constructed the serpentine park including the 70 acre lake traversed by three bridges.
The tour will include most of the property, including the opportunity to view the current restoration of the stables and barn. The tour will be concluded with a talk by the Architect Ian Henderson who will provide an introduction to the conservation work at Chillington Hall concentrating on the Sir John Soame lantern over the saloon which won a Historic Houses Association Award in 2009, the dovecote which won a commendation from the Georgian Group this yeart, and the extensive ranges.
