The Wallace Collection displays wonderful works of art that were collected during the 18th and 19th centuries by the first four Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, the son of the 4th Marquess. Our guided tour centers on the Rococo style of decoration, vividly represented by the great commode made by Antoine-Robert Gaudreaus for Louis XV's bedchamber at Versailles in April 1739, mounted with swirling, organic gilt-bronzes by Jacques Caffiéri, and the chandelier, also by Caffièri, given by Louis XV to his eldest daughter in 1752. The intimate interiors of the first floor galleries are the perfect setting for the collection’s sumptuous pieces that were once owned by Queen Marie-Antoinette.
