Private View and Lecture:
- Dorchester Museum |
- Friday, 11 February 2011
In 2008, with the help and support of the Art Fund, the Dorchester Museum purchased three portraits by Romney of Thomas Rackett and his parents. From this originates perhaps the exhibition "Georgian Faces" at the museum early next year. It is a loan exhibition, from numerous British sources, of portraits of Dorset sitters. Artists represented include Alan Ramsay, Hogarth, Reynolds and Gainsborough.
Gwen Yarker, the curator of the exhibition, was trained at the Courtauld, curator of the Maritime Museum and has been much involved with the Russell-Coates and Dorchester museums and catalogued the Dorset oil paintings for the Public Catalogue Foundation.
