In the late 12th century, the Military Order of the Knights Templar built a church by the Thames that became known as the Temple Church. After the abolition of the Order in 1312, lawyers came to occupy the Temple site and buildings. They formed themselves into two societies, one of which was the Inner Temple, first mentioned by name in a manuscript yearbook of 1388.
By kind permission of the Inner Temple, our visit begins with coffee in one of the sumptuous rooms on the first floor and an introductory talk from Jacqueline Fenton, followed by a tour of the building. We will then move on to Temple Church to hear a talk by the Verger, Oliver Petter and to explore the Church before returning to the celebrated Inner Temple Hall for lunch.
