Event: Christmas Celebration -Chopin Songs at Kettle's Yard
- Kettle's Yard |
- Thursday, 16 December 2010
This event, in the house and gallery at Kettle's Yard, will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Frederic Chopin's birth, with a presentation of music and slides, given by Jeremy Barlow, writer and musical director, Emma Corke, soprano and her brother William Corke, pianist.
A short recital of Chopin songs will include one that the composer copied into an autograph album that belonged to Fanny Erskine, who met Chopin in Paris in 1847-8 and Manchester 1848. Fanny was the mother of Ida, wife of Charles Darwin's youngest son Horace, who lived in Cambridge; Ida left her mother's album to the Fitzwilliam Museum, where it is housed in the Founder's Library. Jeremy, Emma and William are descendents of Fanny Erskine.
