Visit: Deene Park and Kirby Hall
Deene has been the home of the Brudenell family since 1514. Set in beautiful gardens, the house has been developed round a charming medieval courtyard and has both Tudor and Georgian wings. It houses a diverse and fascinating collection of paintings and objets d'art amassed by the family, not to mention historic relics of their ancestor, the 7th Lord Cardigan who led the Charge of The Light Brigade.
Kirby is now a magical part ruin but was one of the most magnificent Elizabethan mansions of its time. Built by the Hatton family and added to in the 17th Century, it contains superb Renaissance carvings and architectural details with splendid Elizabethan strapwork on the gables. It is often used as a film set.
