Visit: Aynhoe Park
- Aynhoe Park |
- |
The original Aynhoe Park was damaged in the Civil War and rebuilt
thereafter to a design by Edward Marshall. It was enlarged by Thomas Archer in
1707 and embellished in the 19th century by Sir John Soane. The present
owner has restored the house as a private home, and has filled it with his
extensive and unusual collection of plaster casts, adding to the Soanian feel of
the partly Soane interiors. The casts vary in date and style, and come from a
variety of sources including the V&A and the Metropolitan Museum, New York.
The visit includes the plaster workshop, the gardens and the
church.
