Visit: "Pioneering Painters" at Kelvingrove
This is a major new retrospective exhibition of work by the Glasgow Boys at Kelvingrove: it is over forty years since such a comprehensive selection was gathered together. Paintings have come from public and private collections worldwide to celebrate and reflect the artistic contribution of these pioneers of the late 19th century.
Over 140 paintings and works on paper are shown in a series of thematic rooms, which can be viewed in random order. Famous works by Guthrie, Lavery, Melville and Crawhill are in special focus rooms, whilst other areas are devoted to Places (Moniaive, Kirkcudbright and Cockburnspath), Modern Life, Symbolism and the influence of Japanese culture.
Kelvingrove has produced a delight for the eye, the intellect and the heart. The exhibition is stunning.
