Visit: Kelvingrove and Hunterian Art Galleries
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is mounting an exhibition entitled "Pioneering Painters: The Glasgow Boys 1880-1900", the first major exhibition devoted to this influential group of artists since 1968. The exhibition comprises around 100 oil paintings and 50 works on paper, both from the Glasgow Museums' collections and from other public and private collections across the country. One of the curators will give an introductory talk.
In the afternoon, visit the Hunterian Art Gallery which has a complimentary exhibition, entitled "Aspects of Scottish Art 1869-1910", designed to put the Glasgow Boys in context with other artists who preceded and followed them. Also showing is "James Patterson: Works from the Artist's Studio". Ann Dulau, who curated both these exhibitions, will give a short talk before a tour.
There should also be time to visit either the ArtFunded Artist Room featuring Joseph Beuys or the Charles Rennie Mackintosh house which is in the same building as the art gallery.
