Broughton House, located on the banks of the River Dee in Kirkcudbright, was, from 1901 the home and studio of the artist and leading member of the 'Glasgow Boys', EA Hornel.  Behind the walls of this fine 18th century house, with its pink limewashed walls, is a delightful collection of art, ceramics, furniture and literature. For many, however, the crowning glory of the property is the magical secret garden containing many features designed by Hornel himself, and betraying a strong Japanese influence on the design and choice of plants.

This visit anticipates the 2010 ‘Glasgow Boys’ summer exhibition at Kelvingrove which, uniquely, transfers to the Royal Academy in London for a further three months.
