Visit: Westminster Cathedral and Westminster Abbey

  •  |
A day of huge contrasts in architectural styles. The Gothic Abbey, founded by Edward the Confessor, was largely rebuilt in the 13th century to house his shrine in style; Henry VII added the Perpendicular Lady Chapel, and the West Towers are by Hawksmoor. All this contrasts markedly with the neo-Byzantine Cathedral complete with campanile, towers, balconies and domes, and decorated within with rich mosaics and marbles, and Stations of the Cross by Eric Gill.
