Spend the morning at the National Conservation Centre. After a welcome coffee, host Dave Abbott will introduce the work of the Centre which is part of National Museums Liverpool. Smaller groups will visit some of the studios where conservation work is taking place. A fascinating behind the scenes tour.

The National Conservation Centre cares for all of the items in the National Museums Liverpool collection.  Many of these items will need treatment at some point. They may be in danger of deteriorating, or may need cleaning before going on display. The team of conservators have a range of specialist skills and experience. These, combined with the centre's state-of-the-art studios mean that the objects receive the highest quality of care available.

There will be an opportunity to buy lunch at the Victoria Museum & Gallery at the University.  Refurbished in 2008, enjoy a conducted tour of the collection followed by time to look around at leisure or have a cup of tea. The Grade 2 listed red brick & terracotta building designed by Alfred Waterhouse features a wonderful tiled interior by Burmantofts of Leeds, and the caf is located in what was once the grand entrance hall of the University. The art collection spans the 16th – 21st centuries, including works by JMW Turner, Lucien Freud & John James Audubon – whose works are featured in a special gallery. Also on view is the Sydney Jones collection of porcelain; sculpture and archaeological collections.

There will also be a chance to view the Art Fund-supported Channel 4 Big Art sculpture, The Dream by Jaume Plensa, from the M62 en route to Liverpool, situated on a former colliery site overlooking the motorway.
