Claverton Manor was built on a hill above the River Avon in 1820 by Jeffry Wyattville. In the late 1950s it bcame the home of The American Museum in Briatin - the only museum of Americana outside the USA. A series of period rooms have been created which show the development of American decorative arts from the 17th century to the 19th century and there are also galleries devoted to folk art, Native American art and a large collection of textiles. The extensive grounds contain a replica of part of the garden at Mount Vernon, George Washington's house in Virginia and with an arboretum of North American trees and shrubs.

Following a private tour of the house there will be an opportunity to visit the gardens and see the Museum's current exhibition 'American Beauty: Art from Craft in 19th Century America'. The afternoon allows free time for exploring Bath, which may include the Abbey, the Roman Baths, the Pump Rooms or many of the city's museums - or shops!
