The Company of Skinners was a medieval guild of furriers, and Skinners’ Hall – a Grade I listed building – houses a variety of treasures, from Catherine the Great’s chandelier to a ceremonial plate dating back to before the English Civil War, which will be specially on display for Art Fund visitors. Other highlights include the Minstrels’ Gallery, beautifully decorated with 13 murals painted by Sir Frank Brangwyn, and the Court Room of 1670, which is panelled in pencil cedar from Virginia: the wood is well known for its perfuming quality, and on hot days the scent of cedarwood can still be enjoyed. At the end of the visit, drinks will be served on the roof terrace.
