Collecting Modern Art
- Various |
A day for those interested in modern art – just looking at it, or understanding it or collecting it. In the morning visit a private collection of British and International art located 8 miles south of Norwich. We are very grateful to our hosts for welcoming us to their home and showing us their collection of paintings and sculpture, which include work by Miro, Dubuffet and de Stael. They will tell us about the works on show and what they enjoy about collecting modern art. Many of the works come from the distinguished collection of E J Power, one of the greatest collectors of post-war international art.
After a pub lunch then go to David Case Fine Art at the Old Rectory at Brockdish near Diss to hear about collecting modern art from a dealer’s perspective. David Case, a founder director of Christie’s Contemporary Art, has spent over 30 years working in the London art market and now works as a private dealer from his home. His major focus is modern and contemporary prints from the Henry Moore generation to contemporary artists such as Lucien Freud and Bridget Riley, and he will be talking about his career in the art market and showing us work by artists he admires.
Members only. Numbers restricted to 30. Directions and the names
of our first hosts will be sent out with the tickets. Lunch will consist
of a main course and tea or coffee [other items at your expense] and we will be
expected at 12.30 at the Bird in Hand, Wreningham which is on the B1112.
After lunch follow the B1112 south and turn left on to the B1135 until you reach
the A140. Turn right and after the third roundabout take the A143
signed to Great Yarmouth. After three miles turn right into Brockdish and
first left into church road. Postcode IP21 4JJ We are due at the Old
Rectory at 2.30pm.
