Conducted Tour: Harlyn House, St Merryn, with lunch at Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant, Padstow

  •  |

The owner of Harlyn House, Mr Michael Alken, has generously offered Art Fund members the opportunity to view the progress of the restoration of this historic house, with Stephen Tyrrell, the architect in charge, as your guide.

On a Celtic site, Harlyn House was the seat of  the manor which included Harlyn Bay, Constantine Bay, and Trevose Head. The present house has thirty rooms and includes construction from the 16th to early 19th centuries. It is now nearing the end of a lengthy restoration and is unfurnished. The house and the overgrown garden contain interesting features, including a curious dovecote.

For lunch afterwards, take advantage of the low season special offer for a three course lunch at 32.50 (including service charge) per person at Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant in nearby Padstow. As the restaurant requires four weeks advance notice, book promptly, no later than 3 February.
