A lecture by Dr David Jeffreys
Former Chair, School of Modern Languages, University of Leicester and then Director of Plas Glyn-y-Weddw

The aim of the lecture will be to concentrate on the architecture, museums and galleries of the beautiful city of Dresden, situated on the River Elbe. This city has now very largely reconstructed itself from three devastating acts of destuction: by King Frederick the Great of Prussia during the Seven Years War, by the German Revolution in 1849 which centred on Dresden and finally by the allied bombing of the city in February 1945.

David visited the city in the 1970s and again this year. His lecture will include slides and feature the Zwinger Palace; the Semperoper, one of the most beautiful opera houses in Europe; the Frauenkirche and other museums and building of architectural interest.
