- Moma Wales |
- |
The first visit of the new season will be to Machynlleth and Pennal, to visit MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) Wales in Machynlleth, Pennal Church and the nearby Cefn Caer and the Canolfan Owain Glyndwr Centre back in Machynlleth. The program is as follows (all times except the first will be approximate):
10.30 am Arrive at MOMA galleries, alongside Y Tabernacl, a
performing arts centre housed in a former Wesleyan Chapel in Heol Penrallt
(the principal road running north towards the railway station from the town
centre marked by its distinctive Victorian clock tower). Coffee and welsh cakes
will be served free of charge on arrival. Please state that you are on the Art
Fund visit. Visitors will be shown current and permanent exhibitions- the
latter including works by Peter Williams, Augustus John, Mervyn Levy and Sir
Kyffin Williams.
12.00 noon Leave Y Tabernacl by coach for
Pennal arriving about 20 minutes later.
12.30 pm Visit to
the church of St Peter ad Vincula in Pennal. The only church with this
dedication in Wales, it is of very ancient foundation, and though restored
contains medieaval elements and has strong associations with Owain Glyndwr and
the 'Pennal Policy' of 1406.
1.30 pm Lunch in the Riverside
Hotel, which is directly opposite the church.
2.50 pm
Leave by coach for Cefn Caer, a medieaval hall house which also has strong
associations with Glyndwr. Visitors will be met and escorted by the
owner of the house, which open strictly by invitation only.
4.10
pm Return by coach for the Canolfan Owain Glyndwr Centre in
Machynlleth.
4.30 pm Visit to the Centre and 'Parlaiment
House'. One of the trustees will talk to us about the history and
future of the building.
