National Glass Centre
- National Glass Centre |
The National Glass Centre on the River Wear opened in 1998 in a striking new building fit for an industry which is certainly important to the nation. There visitors may see glass makers at work, exhibitions of historic and contemporary glass and the Glass Shop, where makes of studio glass can be bought. After a two course lunch in the river side 'Throwingstones' restaurant the visit continues on to Cherryburn, the home of Thomas Bewick, wood engraver seeing examples of his wild life engravings. There it is possible to stroll round the house where he was born and worked that is now maintained by the National Trust.
