Longford Castle, which is still a family home and not generally open to the public, is said to have been completed with the wealth taken from a Spanish galleon wrecked during the Armada.

The castle features three towers representing the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Much of the furniture was made for the house in the 18th century by some of the best English furniture makers of the day. Both Gainsborough and Reynolds are represented in the picture collection.
