Kingston Lacy, the home of the Bankes family for 300 years, and the most important surviving work of Sir Roger Pratt (described by Pevsner as 'that most discriminating gentleman architect') and modified by James Barry in 1835, has been restored by the National Trust as it was in its Edwardian heyday.  It contains works by Titian, Sebastiano del Piombo and a Velazquez; has a wonderful park and a recently restored Japanese Garden.  A slide lecture will explain how a large country house is put to bed after the end of the season and how it deals with general conservation problems.
