The lecture focuses on The Medici family, who originally made their money  in banking, controlled Florence, the city at the heart of the Italian Renaissance. Patrons such as Cosimo de' Medici and his grandson Lorenzo the Magnificent encouraged artists of the stature of Botticelli, Brunelleschi, Leonardo and Michelangelo.
