Film and photography were once considered poor cousins to painting and sculpture, but over the past decade, lens-based art has become a dominant force in the contemporary art scene. This talk acts to overview the history of art photography, and investigates how Jeff Wall, Cindy Sherman, Stan Douglas and Bill Viola, among others, have become among the most influential artists of their generation.
