Jonathan Ruffer curatorial grants: Recent awards

  • £1,285 to Silvia Davoli (Strawberry Hill House) to undertake research on Horace Walpole to inform a forthcoming exhibition.
  • £1,000 to Jose Forrest-Tennant (Wolverhampton Art Gallery) to attend a course on Curating Art After New Media.
  • £750 to Peta Motture (V&A) to attend a conference on bronzes in LA and contribute to the founding of a subject specialist network.
  • £670 to Alastair Miles and David Pearson (Mary Rose Trust) to undertake research on conservation techniques at Vasa Museum in Stockholm.
  • £500 to Tehmina Goskar (Cornwall National Maritime Museum) to research Celtic Viking collections on the Isle of Man.
  • £205 to Francesca Purvis (St Andrews Preservation Trust) to attend a photography course to aid in cataloguing collections.

 

Selection of previous grants

  • £6,500 to Dr Xavier Bray (Dulwich Picture Gallery) to fund travel to Spain to research the relationship between Goya and Gainsborough and to fund curatorial backfill in order to make this research possible. Dr Bray detailed his project on his Art Fund Blog
  • £2,500 to Lindsay Taylor (University of Salford Art Collection) to fund travel to Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei and Hong Kong to meet artists and develop a relationship with the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art ahead of the exhibition Harmonious Society at the Asia Triennial Manchester festival in September 2014.
  • £1,750 to Kate Beats (University of Warwick) to research, interpret, catalogue and display the ancient ceramics collection at the National Museum Wales.
  • £1,360 to Joanne Gray and Julia Beazer (Plymouth City Art Gallery and Museum) to visit the organisation Dispositif, Urbain, Culture, Alzheimer in Paris and undertake research into the role fine art can play for those living with dementia.
  • £1,250 to Dr. Joshua Newton (National Maritime Museum) to research collections in Ghana with a view to reinterpreting the National Maritime Museum’s displays, and informing a forthcoming monograph.
  • £1,000 to Susan Lord (Bury Art Museum) to travel to New York City to research the archiving techniques at the Fales Archive & Special Collections and the Lesbian Herstory Archives in order to inform collections policy at Bury Art Gallery.
  • £1,000 to Sarah Worden (National Museums Scotland) to visit Malawi and undertake research to improve understanding of the museum’s textile collections.
  • £525 to Matthew Williams (Cardiff Castle) to research the Gothic revival in the Schloss of Neuchwanstein in Bavaria.
  • £288 to Dave Moffat (National Museums Liverpool) to attend the Northern Ceramic Society’s conference.
