New Contemporaries and Art Fund presented a symposium bringing together New Contemporaries' alumni artists with writers and curators to address the challenges facing emerging artists working in the UK.
Panel discussions will present an informed survey of how artists’ practices can be productively challenged and developed; supported through critical discourse and exhibition spaces; as well as finding a place within plans for urban regeneration. Speakers include artists Rory Mcbeth and Joe Fletcher Orr, plus industry experts Heather Deedman, senior artists' liaison officer at Acme Studios; Charlotte Higgins, chief culture writer for The Guardian; Cheryl Jones, director for Grand Union; Francesco Manacorda, artistic director at Tate Liverpool; George Vasey, curator & writer; and Jonathan P Watts, critic.
Presented by New Contemporaries and Art Fund in partnership with Bluecoat.
The symposium was held between 11am and 4pm on Friday 30 September at the Bluecoat, School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BX.
