A view of the Inside of Mergate [sic] Pier
- Art Funded
- 22.8 x 69.9 cm
- Andrew Wyld
This work depicts Margate pier with an array of river and sea-going vessels which would have been a common sight off the North Kent coast at that time. Scott details several types of vessel from the local type of fishing boat to a three-master which may have been a cross-Channel trader, and to the smaller vessels with bluff bows and leeboards correctly recorded for period, and possibly indicative of links with the Continent and Holland in particular.
Sotheby's, 2002; Trustees of a private collection. The work has been vetted by the Art Loss Register in 2007.
