This work depicts a privileged young married woman surrounded by objects demonstrating her accomplishments - a guitar, piano and writing equipment.

The ermine robe suggests she may be from a noble family. Sharp moved to Norwich about 1783 and met John Crome during his time there. He later painted Crome's portrait which now hangs in the museum and became president of the Norwich Society of Artists in 1817.
