The front of the medal shows an armoured draped bust of William. On the reverse is a depiction of William III on horseback with the battle in the background which later became the iconic image of William and his victory at the Boyne. An inscription reads: APPARUIT ET DISSIPAVIT (HE APPEARED AND DISPERSED THEM) LIBERATAT HIBERNIA MDCLXXXX (IRELAND FREED 1690). Purchased by the Art Fund with the assistance of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
