This vase has a striking design of lilies carved in orange glass overlay on a white glass ground.

The lily design shows a naturalistic Western influence, being a popular motif of international Art Nouveau. As is usual with Chinese glass of this type, the piece is not signed but was made by an unknown artist in the mid-Qing dynasty period of the early 20th century.

Provenance

The Plesch Study and Reference Collection (Professor Peter H. Plesch and Mrs Traudi Plesch); The Henrich Collection; Sotheby's, 2006.
