William Henry Hunt was an important artist in the 19th-century development of English watercolour painting and a member of the Monro Circle of artists patronised in Bushey by Dr Thomas Monro.

This architectural study is a historic record of Aldenham Church as it depicts the interior prior to the removal of the box pews during late 19th-century alterations and clearly shows the 14th-century nave, pulpit and gallery with glimpses into the aisles and the 13th-century chancel. Dr Monro commissioned from Hunt a series of drawings and watercolours of scenes in Bushey and the neighbourhood and this work is a finely detailed example of the resulting reed pen drawings with watercolour.
