Three quarter length portrait of James Watt (1736-1819) seated in a dark green coat and waistcoat beside a table with his right hand resting on some papers.

Until now, Birmingham had no portrait of one of its most famous residents. Watts together with his partner Matthew Boulton had a long and very significant association with Birmingham. This work was acquired with assistance from the Wolfson Foundation.

Provenance

James Watt; James Watt Junior; Matthew Piers Robinson Boulton; by descent to vendor.
