Portrait of Edward Opie senior who was a prominent and successful business man, trading at Churchtown in the heart of St Agnes, for a considerable part of the 19th century.

Edward Opie, the artist, was the great-nephew of John Opie, nicknamed 'The Cornish Wonder'. Edward's popularity stemmed from his ability to capture a good likeness and to give his sitters personality and depth.
