This work is part of the 'Wall of Light' series which Scully has been working on since 1998.

The series emerged after a trip to Mexico, when Scully became fascinated by the ancient architectural ruins, observing the effects of changing light on the crumbling stone walls. The edges of the rectangular forms overlap, blur and bleed into one another, revealing previous layers of colour which emanate through the gaps like chinks of light appearing from under the surface. This work is unusual in the series as it uses bright vibrant colours rather than muted earth tones.
