This is a greatly enlarged egg slicer and it is a perfect fit not for an egg, but a child.
The work alludes to the human body to suggest threat and fragility. The themes of entrapment, vulnerability and threat are central to Hatoum's work. The meaning is suggested with things we use daily such as kitchen utensils rather than spelt out.
