The vase has a fluid shape and the artist uses enamel as a texturing medium rather than mere embellishment.

After the firing of the pale green enamel, Iwata rubbed the outside of the vessel with a stone, removing pieces of clay to reveal small imperfections. The rough exterior contrasts with the glossily vibrant enamel interior. Iwata originally trained as a jeweller.
