The sitter is Sue Tilley, chief benefits officer in a job centre although she is portrayed as an anonymous figure.
The weight of her physicality is put under intense scrutiny, but there is also the contradictory sense of self-containment as she shuts her eyes and nonchalantly ignores the viewer's gaze.
