This miniature depicts Charles II (1630 - 1685) in early adulthood, the period of his coronation as King of Scots in 1651.

He wears armour, an embroidered white lawn collar with tassels and blue Garter ribbon. His natural hair is worn long and he has his trademark moustache. David des Granges accompanied Charles to Scotland that year, and was appointed His Majesty's limner in Scotland. From The Albion Collection of portrait miniatures.
