Edward III's fourth coinage.
Hammered design on obverse depicts the king in a boat holding a sword and shield of arms. Numismatically significant because gold nobles of the reign of Edward III were the first gold coins produced in any quantity and generally circulated, reflecting a growing economy.

Discovered by metal detectorists in Abridge in July 2002; declared treasure September 2003.
