One of a series of works by the artist about France during the Second World War and the retreat of 1940.

Huppy is a small rural town in Belgium, and the artist has used an archive photograph of a burning truck to investigate the emotive theme of an abandoned landscape. The photograph is positioned in the top-right of the canvas and is used as a trigger to consider the expressive and formal qualities of the remainder of the picture surface.

Provenance

The artist; Purdy Hicks Gallery.
