Half-length portrait of John Flaxman (1755 - 1826), the most competent and consistent artist employed by Josiah Wedgewood in the 18th century.
His work was varied and extensive, but he concentrated especially on portrait medallions and bas-relief subjects for ornamenting vases and tablets.
