Lady Mary is depicted as Diana and with a hound wearing a gold collar adorned with the Herbert arms surmounted by a viscountess's coronet.

The portrait is part of a group of portraits from Coughton Court, the seat of the Throckmorton family, which testify to the links of this Jacobite family with France.

Provenance

Probably painted for the 1st Marquis, Duke of Powis, father of the sitter; given to Sir Robert Trockmorton by the 2nd Marquis, Duke of Powis; by descent to Mrs Clare McLaren-Trockmorton.
