This tapestry was specially made for a themed exhibition at the Orkney Museum called 'Art based on Orkney Folklore'.
The Finn Men and their mermaid wives were believed to live in cities under the sea in winter, in summer living in Hildaland - islands invisible to mortal eyes. The Orkney island of Eynhallow was believed to have been captured by magic from the Finn Folk.
