A basket-hilted highland dress sword which belonged to Brigadier Sir Gregor MacGregor of MacGregor.

The hilt incorporates elements of an earlier sword, said to have been carved at the Battle of Culloden by a MacGregor ancestor. This sword is linked to the 1822 visit to Edinburgh of King George IV, the first by a reigning monarch of Scotland since 1651

Made for MacGregor of MacGregor and in the possession of his descendents since then.
